We’ve all had that moment when another car has cut you off. Your anger rises and you may feel the need to tell that driver a thing or two, aka road rage.
Road rage is an ongoing problem all over the country. If you encounter a driver with road rage, use these tips we found to keep yourself and your family safe:
- Stay away: Keep a distance between the erratic car and you, even slow down or change lanes.
- Remember a description of the car: Even note the license plate number if you are at a stop light or have a great memory if you need to report the driver to the police.
- Do not engage: This should go without saying, but ignore rude drivers. Their behavior does not need to dictate yours on the road.
- Safety first: If for any reason an aggressive driver follows you, make sure your doors are locked and go to the nearest police station. Getting out and confronting the driver will not any good.
It’s important to also know that road rage is an exemption in many auto insurance policies. Any damage or liability stemming from an aggressive driver isn’t considered an accident but having been caused by risky behavior. Even if you are the one prone to road rage, count to 10 and take a breath, or play music that will keep you calm while driving.
