Stay Safe On and Off the Trail
Whether you own an ATV, UTV, Jeep, or Truck, it’s important to keep up with regular maintenance checks. They’re meant for tough outdoor conditions which means they should be treated with more care than a regular car. When a vehicle endures wear and tear outdoors the chances of damage are much higher than a highway driving car.
Check the tire pressure of the vehicle. Look for tears or marks on the tires that could turn into a flat. It’s a simple task that can be done with an air pressure gauge at home. If you don’t have a gauge, head over to a gas station with an air pump. This usually costs about $1.25 to use and is cheaper than a new set of wheels.
The drive train can get beat up from time to time so keep it well greased for a smooth ride. In addition to lubrication, the tension on the chain may need to be adjusted.
Don’t forget to clean and inspect the drive shaft along with the steering column. One without the other can create a break down in the middle of a ride.
Similar to owning an off-road vehicle it’s vital to know what you should look for even when renting. Just because a company has a five-star rating doesn’t mean the vehicle hasn’t missed an inspection. Always ask questions when renting. It will save you and the business owner time if the vehicle needs a once-over.
